How Safe Is The Tumble Dryer You Are Using?

Will you risk invalidating your home insurance by using a tumble dryer without following manufacturer’s instructions? Whirlpool is the manufacturer of Indesit, Hotpoint and Creda brands. It is in the process of repairing or replacing at least 4.3 million potentially faulty tumble dryers in the United Kingdom.

The tumble dryer is considered dangerous because excess fluff that catches the heating element can be a cause of fire. Fire brigades have recently disclosed that dozens of fires were linked to tumble dryers and the public is warned not to use the tumble dryers until it has been inspected and declared safe by the manufacturer’s engineers. Since Whirlpool cannot repair and replace tumble dryers immediately because of their large number, customers are instructed that they can continue to use the faulty machine as long as it is not left unattended and cleaned properly after every cycle. So far, more than 280,000 machines have been repaired and replaced with 4 million remaining at risk. Since many of Whirlpool’s customers have been waiting for almost 11 months for an engineer to fix their machine, many have opted to buy a replacement for £99.

Not all tumble dryers with the brand names Hotpoint, Creda and Indesit are considered dangerous, only those that were bought between April 2004 and October 2015. If you aren’t sure, you can enter the serial code and model which can be found at the back of your tumble dryer on the online checkers of Hotpoint and Indesit. If the machine is unaffected, you will see a green sticker on the inside of the dryer door or on its reverse side.

According to British Insurance Brokers Association, policies will be unaffected as long as the manufacturer’s instructions are followed. If in doubt, the option is to ask the insurer whether the policy covers a tumble dryer catching fire.

Faulty appliances can be dangerous but having them repaired will ensure their safety. Don’t just throw away a broken appliance until it has been inspected by bringer appliance repair because it uses the latest technology to service appliances. Even vintage appliances can be saved so that they can continue on working.
