Costumed Hollywood Performer Subject To Rules

The street performers in Hollywood attracts tourists but are also seen as an annoyance and burden by city officials and business owners.

Last month, the Los Angeles City Council came into votes to make a Hollywood Entertainment Zone. This would manage the street performers and vendors in Hollywood Boulevard between Orange Drive and Highland Avenue. Councilman Mitch O’Farrell wrote the proposal. This year, New York City has already put a similar legislation for Times Square.

The Hollywood Entertainment Zone has been sent to be drafted officially. This motion would manage the street performers and vendors by only allowing 20 passes per day to be handed out. This means that anyone else is barred from doing regulated activities without the 24 hour pass. These activities include performing, setting up equipments, using amplified music or sound, asking for donations, handing food and so on. These passes are on a first come and first serve basis. Ten each will be available for the north side and south side of the streets. For violators, they are barred 3 months from the system after the 2nd offense.

The LA Times reported that neighboring businesses complained a part of the Boulevard becoming a chaotic ground for hawkers taking advantage of out-of-towners.

These are some of the so-called problems caused by these performers according to a public safety report. They are involved in some occurrences of extortion and theft. Tourists feel pressured to purchase novelty items. Merchants ask for donations from photo opportunities. Amplified music and loud speakers are used for dancing, speeches. These incidents are complained by restaurant regulars and apartment tenants.

International tourists and visitors make up most of the total tourists in Hollywood. They are also the targeted groups by the solicitors.

Like any motion endorsed by the City Council, the ordinance’s text will be written by a City Attorney. After this, it will be sent back to the council to get an approval before becoming a law.

These performers, whether dressed in superhero or TV Store Online Costumes, are part of Hollywood. It is just disappointing how they are not making use of the good nature of dressing in costumes.

The Growing Disappointment Over The All-White Oscar Nominees

Whoopi Goldberg has made it clear on last Tuesday’s The View that she was disappointed with the Oscar’s lack of non-white nominees. She further insists that there are larger issues behind the controversial lack of diversity in Hollywood. According to Goldberg, she is pissed every year on the lack of support for small companies that produce movies.

Goldberg explained that the blame is not on the Academy members who decide whether or not to vote for a black or white movie. The issue is there aren’t enough movies with diverse casts that get financing for production. People who do the nominating do not look at a movie and say that they are not going to nominate it because it happens to be a black movie. The problem is money do not come because of the assumption that there is no place for black movies.

In the history of movies, there has never been a plethora of movies with blacks in them. Goldberg used Avengers as an example. Avengers has white folks saving the earth and although Goldberg wants to be among them, no one is calling her for a role. Goldberg has predicted that the Oscars will continue to have a diversity problem until more movies are made with diverse colors.

On the other hand, Goldberg thinks it is not right to boycott the Oscars because it will be a slap on Chris Rock who will be hosting the show. She will continue to bitch but she is not for boycott. Spike Lee refuses to attend the Oscars because for the second time in a row, the nominees are all-whites. He means no disrespect to Chris Rock but all the 20 contenders for the Actor category are all white. Lee also echoes the sentiments of entertainment industry insiders that the opportunities to make movies with diverse actors are really up to Hollywood executives.

The controversy on the Academy Awards continues and many actors have their own opinions and comments. Continue to access for the latest entertainment news. Controversial stories are featured but there is also trending news on the latest Hollywood movies that you can look forward to.

No one really can say who invented the very first ugly Christmas sweater. These trendy ugly sweaters have been around for some time now. As a matter of fact, you may presume that these ugly sweaters were initially designed to be attractive. It was only the judgmental side of people that evolved this fashion into something ugly but trendy.

Who created the trend for ugly sweaters?

If you look up the Urban Dictionary, it will describe you that a Cosby sweater is a hideous and oversize sweater with ridiculously ugly colors and patterns which are worn by hipsters or old men with bad taste when it comes to fashion. The sweater was named after the comedian and actor Bill Cosby who wore these ugly sweaters while he was acting on the sitcom “The Cosby Show”. The Urban Dictionary points readers to another clue as to the origin of the trend of these ugly sweaters.

The reliable source also states that the sweaters that were worn on set by Bill Crosby were designed by Koos Van Den Akker. He is a New York designer who is very famous for garments that are equipped with wild collages. Koos gets the record of being the only designer to be able to sell more than one million dollars in products or merchandise within the span only of hone hour on a television shopping network. Both Koos and Bill Cosby would not want to take the credit of having set the trend for these sweaters. Research would indicate that ugly Christmas sweaters started to be mass manufactured under “jingle bell sweaters” during the early 80s. During this time, no one really wanted to take the credit of creating these hideous looking sweaters.  Today, more and more businesses are taking advantage of this trendy sweater. Through the efforts of the federal government, government tech agencies including the White House’s US Digital Service and the government’s in-house tech consultancy 18F, there is now a U.S. Web Design Standard. The standard sets the colors, typefaces and buttons including the footer writing guidelines so that all future site design from federal agencies will be guided accordingly.

The standards also specify that blue, gray and white must be used on all government websites. Blue has always been traditionally associated with trust, confidence and sincerity. It is also used when representing calmness and responsibility that is why blue is highly recommended for government websites.

The standards also direct website designers to some shades over the others. Typographically, the standards also suggests to designers to make use of Source Sans Pro which is a sturdy American –inspired san by Adobe and Merriweather that is an affable serif face by Boston-based typographer Eben Sorkin. According to US Digital Service, in order to make better government websites, the two fonts can be combined.

According to Mollie Rushkin, a designer of the US Digital Service, the standards focus on the needs of the American people. There must be a style that conveys credibility, trust and warmth. Pope Francis Talks about Climate Change in Washington D.C.

There is no better endorsement for President Obama’s climate agenda than someone who is the source of immense of moral authority, Pope Francis. On the first day of his visit to America, the Pope called for further action on climate change. He said that it is now a critical moment of history and the problem should not be left to the future generation to solve.

Pope Francis reminded the people that they have a sacred obligation to protect the planet. Making a very rare speech in English to thousands of people gathered at the White House, the Pope praised the President for his recent proposals aimed at tackling the problems of air pollution. The Pope also made a strong pitch to battle climate change with specific reference to the President’s clean air initiative.

The environmental issue is a divisive one in US politics so that one Republican congressman boycotted the Pope’s speech in Congress due to the pontiff’s stance. All the Republican presidential candidates were against the action to tackle climate change because it will hurt the US economy.

The morning begun for Pope Francis as he emerged from the Apostolic Nunciature, the Holy See’s equivalent for an embassy. In his traditional white cassock, Pope Francis spent the first few minutes greeting well-wishers who were gathered behind the fence of the diplomatic complex. Afterwards, the Pope boarded a modest hatchback trailed by a convoy composed of large security vehicles. As they made their way to the White House, Washington streets were purposely cleared of traffic for the occasion.

At the White House, large crowds assembled at the South Lawn to get a glimpse of the pope. Approximately, 11,000 tickets were issued but the crowd was certainly more than that. The Pope was offered one of the most rare and respectful diplomatic ceremony that the US government provides visiting dignitaries. Following the military color guard and the playing of the National Anthems, President Obama welcomed the Pope with a brief remark.

After a private meeting with the US President, the Pope rode the specially outfitted jeep that was called pope mobile and greeted the crowd that lined the streets of Washington.
